With a feast of trend forcasts, installations and prototypes, the 2007 Decoration & Design fair was a promising sign of interiors to come...

Do you ever feel like time is running out? If there's one commodity that defines modern life, it's time, or the lack thereof, so it's only fitting that this was the theme of Melbourne's recent Decoration + Design trend consortium. "We're the clock civilisation; we measure our existence in less time than it takes to breathe in and out. Previous generations used clocks with only one hand!" says trend forecaster Barbara Marshall of the Australian Colour Institute, who headed up the seminar. With time dictating so many of our decisions - decor and othwise - a new wave in designers is opting out of that all too familar race against the clock. "We're looking to more considered interiors that will outlast fashion, and to crafts that remind us to take pleasure in the everyday," explains Barbara.
