Dear Design21 friends,
I decided to enter the Language Matters! poster competition. I want to address an issue. Out of 1100 entries, there were some really great designs, 1000 of them were weird, shocking, and many looked like people were playing with photoshop for the first time. I question the choices of the judges in this competition and invite you all to look at the finalists and see what you think. As a designer, entering this competition was a lot of fun. However, the voting process was horrible, and I wonder if the judges went through all the entries, because out of all the finalists there are two that are worth being there (especially the alphabet soup one) I am not so sure the judges took this competition seriously... which makes me feel like I wasted a lot of my time entering my design. There were many wonderful examples of posters that should've won the competition, and yet none of them were even finalists. The winning design is the most shocking to me. When you compare it to previous posters that won it really doesn't stand out as something that shoudl've won first place. You cannot even see the written graphics because the words are too small, it's hard to believe that out of all the posters this one was picked as first place. Again I just wanted to say I am extremely disappointed in this competition.
