Area for observation
2 West 13th street’s entry place
What did you observe in the physical space? Facing in front of the Entry of 2 West 13th Street, I first got drawn attention by the big windows that separates the school and the outside world, than as the eye traveling into the middle of all windows we see the stairs that leads people to the entry way. In between the stars there is a pillar, which divides the stairs into ¾ and ¼ sections. Walking up the stairs there are four clear glass doors, opening outward. Once we get in through the doors there are 5 sensors for students and faculties to scan their school ID to get into the building. On the far right of the sensors there is an L shape yellow green security desk for security to be on duty to protect the school. On right and left sides of the entry way there are identical circle public space furniture, design for people to sit in and relax at the place. (beside the big windows)
What did you observe in the social space/ interactions? A lot of people use the round public space furniture, but more people like to be standing around the entry way and talk to their friends inside and outside of the entryway. The people stands between the areas of stairs to the glass window tend to be smokers. They like to smoke and talk to their friends between the areas. People also like to group or sit together besides the big windows outside the building.
