    Environment, Environmental Design

Men and women relate with space differently , their perceptions and reactions are unique. Society also defines certain parameters within which both are conditioned to behave.

It is strange how men are accustomed to being offered more room in a train compartment while a woman is expected to make herself comfortable in any corner. A lone woman standing in a corner is always looked upon with suspicion while a man in similar circumstances would not be.

This could be a hangover of times lived or just a natural behavioural pattern but slowly this will dimish and make way for more equality with both relating with the environment in the same way .

  • Best way to enforce such disciplines in such places with intensive travel like railway station and even the compartments is to train and arm the women law enforcement officers and constables at such places. Think about it. Their presence at such places will automatically work for women empowerment among the passengers. And as a result....men wont be the one to be offered 'more' room than the women... :)

  • Thanks for the response Shants! was wondering if any law can re program centuries' old psyche! Well it always seemed interesting to note how space gets different connotation because of its user.Let me know your observations as well.
