Design 21: Social Design Network

Hi. I’m Iskander. When I graduated from UNB with a BA in Multimedia Studies I figured it would be a good idea to try to give myself an online presence so people could get a feel for what I can do. I’m currently living in Saint John, New Brunswick and looking to move and start a career in design.

My experience ranges from paid work to volunteering, to just putting together things for fun. I genuinely enjoy designing just about anything in my free time; whether it’s video or still images. I do all sorts of design... layout, image manipulation, motion graphics, editing and photography. Design tools don’t intimidate me. My favorite tools have to be Photoshop and Motion. Also, a lot of what I know has been self taught and then strengthened by my education.

If I had to pick a favorite creative activity it would probably be photography. Almost every picture I have on flickr was taken when I was finished a project and had a camera sitting in my room for the rest of the day. I needed to go shoot. I find photography to be extremely helpful in keeping me constantly thinking about all kinds of design. It’s why I never leave home without my camera. Shooting helps me consider colour, layout, framing, negative space and a whole world of other elements of design. That’s why I can be approached with any idea and come up with something that I always hope to be unique and genuine.
