The Polish government chose a winner in the design competition for the Polish pavilion at the 2010 world expo in Shanghai before Christmas. The winning entry was design by architects Wojciech Kakowski, Marcin Mostafa and Natalia Paszkowska.

Their building is inspired by traditional Polish folk art paper cut-outs reinterpreted in a contemporary fashion. The idea was generated when the team sought to create a 'cultural ideogram' that would signify the country of origin in an iconic way.

Zines are defined by Wikipedia as any self-published book of minority interest. They may be enjoying a real surge in interest if the selection of beautiful work on Little Paper Planes is anything to go by.

Will Ashford creates beautiful images from recycled words.

The majority of this work comes from several different copies of The Essays of Ralph Waldo Emerson printed from 1887 to 1927. As Will says, 'Something about working with these pages quietly reminds me that a part of our culture is about recycling ideas.

Chip Kidd, amazing book cover designer had this profound comment to make on A Brief Message on the Amazon's new Kindle, electronic book system:

"Monday November 19th, Amazon released something called Kindle, the latest “e-book” reading device. I’ve been asked to comment on what effect I think this will have, if any, on book design as we know it. Here goes.

    None.

    Sincerely, Chip Kidd"

  • Thank you too

    Thankyoutoo1_177_

'Thank you too' launched a business-card sized booklet of 30 cards, 5 post cards and a stamp so that we can have a thank you note easily to hand to show our appreciation in any situation... Some clearly for lesss frequent circumstances and some just to spread a little everyday light around. Could have some fun with these!

The question is not what you look at, but what you see. Henry David Thoreau
