If you are talking about the Judge's Top Pick (by Abi Huynh), please take a look at the entire entry. The first image you see is deceptive in that it shows its application to a poster. Second image shows the logo by itself. The other 2 images show other applications, including its application to stationery and business card. You scroll down to see all the finalists and you will find Abi Huynh's entry near bottom. Click on the image to see the entire entry. (Or you can search the designer on the site to get to it.)
As for others, if you read all the judges' comments you will see that aesthetic nature wasn't all they looked at.
