I manage the Buckminster Fuller Challenge and am currently helping to develop Idea Index 2.0, a repository of entries to the Challenge as well as a tool that serves to educate, network, and help solve complex problems.

My background stems from contemporary art then moves into public infrastructure via public art and capital improvement projects. Regarding design, I'm interested in how artifacts at various scales operate in larger systems. I'm interested in how culture informs design and how that impacts the capacity to improve emergent ecological and/or technological systems.

My personal design efforts have been primarily architectural, working in New Mexico on vernacular and off-grid housing experiments. Having built for many years I'm currently incubating my own practice until I'm ready to "make" again.

About the Buckminster Fuller Challenge-----------------------

The Buckminster Fuller Challenge is an annual international design Challenge awarding $100,000 to support the development and implementation of a strategy that has significant potential to solve humanity's most pressing problems. It attracts bold, visionary, tangible initiatives focused on a well-defined need of critical importance. Winning solutions are regionally specific yet globally applicable and present a truly comprehensive, anticipatory, integrated approach to solving the world's complex problems.

About the Buckminster Fuller Institute--------------------------

The Buckminster Fuller Institute is dedicated to accelerating the development and deployment of solutions which radically advance human well being and the health of our planet's ecosystems. We aim to deeply influence the ascendance of a new generation of design-science pioneers who are leading the creation of an abundant and restorative world economy that benefits all humanity.

Our programs combine unique insight into global trends and local needs with a comprehensive approach to design. We encourage participants to conceive and apply transformative strategies based on a crucial synthesis of whole systems thinking, Nature's fundamental principles, and an ethically driven worldview.

By facilitating convergence across the disciplines of art, science, design and technology, our work extends the profoundly relevant legacy of R. Buckminster Fuller. In this way, we strive to catalyze the collective intelligence required to fully address the unprecedented challenges before us.

If success or failure of this planet and of human beings depended on how I am and what I do...How would I be? What would I do? R.B. Fuller
