I think there are plenty of waffle irons that are just made not designed. Design is a complex approach to functional, ascetic, and usability merits. And from my point of view should not be mistaken to any process of creation. Good example is when we have a function but not a designed product, it usually happens when a new technology comes up, a technology that can sell itself, so the product has a function for example it is a cell phone at the beginning of the mobile era but we don’t have a design. How many years should pass till we will have something thought-out? Well it took a lot.
