I skimmed through this article, it's long and it's interesting and it touches upon the million dollar question - What can we do for the world to sustain all the cars we want in the future when it can't even sustain the ones we have today?
I believe we need to look further than to the automobile itself. Even if cars where propelled by air it wouldn't solve problems like congestion, parking space, and asphalt taking over nature not to mention the massive stream of materials used up by the auto industry to manufacture a fleet of 750 million cars that don't last more than 7 - 10 years.
We need to address mobility at the core and we need to move away from objectifying the car as a life style consumption object, if cars are ever going to become sustainable.
Therefore, basically what humanity needs is Design Students with a holistic approach on mobility at large, creating a yet unimagined green design of mobility.
Keep up doing good - there is lots of fun work to do!
