    Call for Entries: 6 February–30 March 2012 BIO 23 Exhibition: 27 September–11 November 2012

    The Museum of Architecture and Design is proud to announce the international Call for Entries for the 23rd Biennial of Design – the international exhibition and BIO Design Awards competition. The curators of this year’s exciting 23rd edition of BIO are Margo Konings and Margriet Vollenberg of Organisation in Design.

    Adopting the theme Design Relations, the BIO 23 exhibition will highlight fresh ideas and explore how design relates to the social, the sustainable, and the cultural, while displaying crossovers between culture and commerce, crafts and industry. Curators will select the works to be exhibited from the entries received. The BIO 23 exhibition will be held from 27 September to 11 November 2012 at the Museum of Architecture and Design in Ljubljana, Slovenia.

    The Biennial of Design is one of the few major international design exhibitions with a tradition of more than 48 years that presents a carefully chosen selection of contemporary trends in international design. From the first biennial in 1964 to today, BIO has presented 22 exhibitions that survey the best in international design.

    Period for Entry Submissions: 1 February–12 April 2010

    On 7 October 2010 the Architecture Museum of Ljubljana will open the 22nd Biennial of Industrial Design (BIO 22). BIO is a comprehensive international exhibition that highlights current trends in contemporary design through its selection of well-designed products with an emphasis on quality, originality and innovation.

    Designers, manufacturers, commissioners, mentors, students are welcome to submit their works. Works may be submitted in any of the following groups: A. Products, B. Product graphics and information design, and C. Concepts. The works that will be exhibited will be chosen by international Selection Committee, composed of experts from various area of design. The conditions and selection criteria are stated in Rules for Participation in the 22nd Biennial of Industrial Design available at link.

    After the strict selection of all works entered, the works that are chosen and displayed are examined by a prestigious international jury, which awards the highest prizes in design: the BIO Gold Medals, the BIO Quality Concept Awards, the BIO Honorable Mentions, and a BIO Award for a Student Work.

  • ISKRA: NON-ALIGNED DESIGN 1946–1990

    The Architecture Museum of Ljubljana and the Pekinpah Association has prepared an overview exhibition on the development of design at the Slovene company Iskra. The selection of items presented dates from the period of the company’s founding in 1946 to the breakup of the Iskra Group in the early 1990s. Both the exhibition and the monograph are focusing on the period 1960–85. The main focus of the exhibition is the industrial and graphic design items that resulted from Iskra's know-how and its design department’s efforts, with emphasis on technological progress.

    The entire project also marks the 30th anniversary since the launch of Iskra's internationally recognized telephone, the ETA 80, by the distinguished Slovene designer Davorin Savnik.

    The exhibition prepared by BIO Secretariat presents BIO 21 award-winners and a selection of Slovenian works that were on display at BIO 21.
