The Chelsea Art Museum, Home of the Miotte Foundation, exhibits contemporary art complimented by public programs intended to foster critical thinking about today’s world. Through these exhibitions and programs visitors are offered insight into cutting edge new media, visual and performing arts all within an inviting, intimate setting.
The Chelsea Art Museum is founded on the legacy of the Informel artist Jean Miotte, whose foundation is housed within the Museum. The Chelsea Art Museum’s impressive permanent collection is comprised of many of Jean Miotte’s artworks. Through his painting, Miotte strove to build a bridge between cultures and transcend national boundaries to form a truly international artistic language. It is in this spirit that the Chelsea Art Museum presents its exhibitions and programs, reflecting contemporary human experience across a spectrum of cultural, social, environmental and geographical contexts.
The Chelsea Art Museum’s exhibitions, each supported by a rich series of related cultural events and educational programs, seek to support in both its artists and audiences a sense of creativity, community and cultural exchange. In collaboration with a network of museums and visual arts institutions, both national and international, the Chelsea Art Museum seeks to present important, but relatively unexplored dimensions of 20th and 21st Century Art.
The museum also presents film, performance, frequent artist talks and round-tables for cross cultural and interdisciplinary debate. The museum is a home to such events as exhibition tours, music concerts, private parties, dance performances and other various functions.
