I have always aspired to become a successful designer and businessman in a competitive world. As the only boy in a family of five children, I have come to realize that I will have to shoulder a lot of family obligations and responsibilities one day. Since my father is a businessman, I am expected to follow his footsteps and help run the family business on my graduation. My passion, however, remains design. I have always been interested in creating high-level products and furniture, focusing on form and functionality. In the future, I would like to find a balance between design and business. During this summer, I interned at GOD, a Hong Kong based furniture and home goods company that focuses on local design and takes pride in its Chinese heritage. I have never really looked to Hong Kong designers before this recent internship. In my life, and while growing up in Hong Kong, I have developed an admiration for foreign design styles. Now, I have become aware of my own cultural styles. I would therefore like to bring these patterns, shapes and forms into my thesis as well as be able to conduct research that would help me to understand Hong Kong culture thoroughly. I am a well-organized person as I am capable of providing detailed information in areas of research analysis. I am not afraid to challenge traditional thinking and willing to accept comments and responses received from others. I am also willing to undertake difficult design and construction assignments. Prototyping techniques such as woodworking and metal fabrication are my strengths. I am hoping to improve my communication skills and drawings so that I can engage effectual communication when it comes to expressing my feelings and thoughts.
