  • Project 10 to the 100

Project 10 to the 100 is a call for ideas to change the world by helping as many people as possible by Google.

"Never in history have so many people had so much information, so many tools at their disposal, so many ways of making good ideas come to life. Yet at the same time, so many people, of all walks of life, could use so much help, in both little ways and big. In the midst of this, new studies are reinforcing the simple wisdom that beyond a certain very basic level of material wealth, the only thing that increases individual happiness over time is helping other people. In other words, helping helps everybody, helper and helped alike. The question is: what would help? And help most? "

    Project 10 to the 100

We'll help bring these ideas to life. We're committing $10 million to implement these projects, and our goal is to help as many people as possible. So remember, money may provide a jumpstart, but the idea is the thing.

I only found out about this now and they will only accept submissions until the 20th. but it would be nice to see what this yields. i just wish it got more publicity.

Lee, thanks for bringing this to my attention. It's easy to enter, so don't let the short time before the deadline discourage you. If you have an idea that you think they would be interested in, you should submit it.

I am going to submit my idea for new charter schools I am calling, "Tesla Academies", after the famous Serbian-American inventor. Here's my 300 word mission statement:

"In sharp contrast to conventional schools, Tesla Academies are learning environments that promote necessary interdisciplinary, hypothesis-driven thinking, so that we can invent our way out of looming financial, environmental, political and social disasters of the current moment. Our progress, and maybe even our survival depends on our ability to rethink the way we educate kids. Tesla Academies will combine a collaborative, project-based curriculum, faculty that acts as specialist consultants rather than drill masters, and an administration that values productive confrontation over docility and rote memorization of de-contextualized "facts". These charter schools will stand as a model of how an immersive educational experience can establish habits of mind that may lead to a new generation of inspired inventors, equipped to address the daunting technical and social problems we face right now, and in the immediate future."

  • Google collected 150,000 ideas. Unfortunately only 100 of these ideas will be announced on January 27th, 2009.
