Sedentary Tendency
Education
Problem: Mental and physical well being declines as a result of sedentary habits.
Solution: Physical therapy for an Increasingly sedentary lifestyle
Context: With more technology comes ease of production, however those technologies take form, as objects with weight.A walking commuter needs strength and endurance to carry his/her essentials. If ill maintained the body may fatigue easily, causing muscle pain, headaches, and physical distress.
Initial Ideas: Teach the mind, core training exercises which improve balance and physical dexterity
Parallel to mental and physical well being Routine Exercise Discipline Health schema Health Story
INTERSECTION Sedentary life vs. Utility
Incorporate play into daily activity
You don’t have to go to the gym to work out
Its success is it’s simplicity. It is used as needed.

Urban Sound Crisis
Peace
Attached is Problem #1
Those most affected by sound restrictions in New York city are Musicians, and the neighbors of those musicians. Other’s affected are children whom at a young age may not realize the desire to learn an intsrument due to the realistic limitations of sound pollution. Musicians will benefit from this exploration becuase they will have a dedicated space to play, and hone skills confidently where otherwise they were unable to do. I will explore making contacts with; Public storage facilities in New York CityRecording studiosPractice spacesSubway musiciansMusician apartment tenantsbandsNon- profits that deal directly with Musicians living and working habits.A musician needs their own space to play in. A Space which allows them freedom from sound pressure.Public and private space is of primary concern, Musicians don’t want to feelguilty for practicing because it is too loud.Create a box-within-a-box sound proof room to fit drum set, and drummer. Redesign the Drum set; Drum set as both work and play. Drum set is a bed to sleep in, Drum set is a desk to work at, Drum set is a drum set to play with.Foam DrumsRedesign Interior decorating/Sound isolation: Sound absorbing desk chair, sound absorbing drawers, sound absorbing shelving. The Musician feels guilty for making so much noise, he/she is reluctant to practice at will.Problem 1: Inability to rehearse musical instruments in urban living environment. Context/understan...

Compod
Environment
Problem Identified: New Yorkers are ignorant of what to do with food waste.
Tae-Yun Kim’s Solution: A composting unit for elementary school cafeterias.
Non-Profit Group: Lower East Side Ecology Center
Strengths: Project follows the goals of the non-profit. Good intentions.
Negatives: Shape does not indicate it’s purpose. Time issue is unresolved. Not energy efficient. Oblivious to NYC spacial limitations. Board is incomplete. Peek holes are too small.
Our Solution: Integrate the process into the curriculum. Make the composting unit individual sized. Make it fun!
The Design: Loading caps have magnifying lens dual functionality. Body material is soft to the touch. Black material absorbs natural light to facilitate decomposition. You can twist and roll the compod to mix the food waste inside. The side viewing window allows the composter to document progress.

Well-being, Industrial Design
Imagine the place where you spend most of your time each day. Where is it?
In-transit.
Imagine it as you most want it to be. What is your #1 vision for change that will make it that way?
Tele-commuting
After your #1 thing happens, how will everyone benefit?
Less people will need transportation all of the time, this in turn helps people by causing less pollution.
Give some examples of what you can do (on your own or with a group) to make your vision a reality.
One day out of the week people can work at home, using the internet and telephone.
Imagine your neighborhood the way you most what it to be.
What is your #1 vision for change that will make your neighborhood that way?
Green roofs, and grass sidewalks.
After your #1 thing happens, how will everyone benefit?
People will spend more time outdoors, enjoying cleaner air.
Give some examples of what you can do (on your own or with a group) to make your vision a reality.
I could speak with my landlord and ask him if I could design and build a green roof.
Imagine your country the way you most want it to be.
What is your #1 vision for change that will make it that way?
No war
After your #1 thing happens, how will everyone in your nation benefit?
Soldiers will come home to their families.
Give some examples of what you can do (on your own or with a group) to make your vision a reality.
