I will be combining my Design Criteria and a revisitation of my Mapping Project because I feel that both are directly correlated. After speaking with Robert this week, I came to the conclusion that it was really important to create a hierarchy of the things I'm interested in. I think this will serve to organize my thoughts and to help me focus my research in the right direction.
Material: Natural colors, natural materials, white, green, and wood are critical components of my criteria. I want these to relate to the overall subject matter as well. For instance, for my idea of "leeching" I want to research about the possibly substitution of materials from ones that leech, to those that are naturally occurring and biodegradable.
Function: I want the function to be something physical that raises awareness, and changes the way the user reacts, or even changes their habits. In terms of "leeching" I like the idea that habits do not change abruptly, but begin to change over a long period of time. I feel that long term change is the key to larger changes.
Environmental Impact: I want my product to tackle waste. Therefore, it has to be something which is sustainable.
Cost: I want it to be relatively cheap so that many people can afford it. I want it to be consumed by many many people so they have to be able to afford it.
