Design 21: Social Design Network

6 years ago, I was an art student, at the very first time of my thought was how I could present my identity directory to anyone, that was about 5-6 years ago. During I was enrolled second high school, I had many opportunities to see different kind of people such as a fine artist, person who want to work in nursing-care scene, business people, movie creator, and many other people. I was influenced by diverse of thinking, and the way of my thinking was gradually changed to the other direction. This was the reason of changing from Art to Design. At that time, Art was about self-expression for me, but I started to think how I could provide my potential to people. However, design is not easy to identify, it could be anything, and thus I have a huge gap between giving a benefit to people (society) and benefit as a business. Ideal condition of designer is just solving a problem that people have without any profit. The senior year is only one year and one chance that I can provide design, in other words, help and benefit to people and our society without any profit. Now, one memory reminds me. In the last summer vacation, I saw my old friend I have made during second high school, and he is working in mental hospital. He is taking care people suffering mental disorders, and he was eventually influenced by them and got a mental illness. Although we should raise employees of those institutions, even support person is getting ill. I think the problem of our society is not only about visible matter, and this is what I have to think. Today’s technology has been highly developed, but we are tossed by it. I have many skills for creating with CG and crafting, but they are just tools to achieve designing. My focal point is how problems, conceptualizing, and solution connected well. Technologies cannot solve our problems by themselves, we need to solve through design.
