AIGA XCD nominates Alan Jacobson, proprietor of the Philadelphia-based consulting and design firm Ex;it.
For almost 3 years now, Jacobson has been an integral part of a community-building initiative in in the village of Guerrero in Rwanda, still recovering from the ravages of the horrific civil war we've heard so much about.
His project kicked off with the design of genocide survivors’ memorial in the village to house the bones of loved ones killed in the 1994 genocide. Since then, he has worked with village leaders in developing a sunflower cooperative to explore opportunities for self-sustainability and economic development.
