  • Furniture for everybody.

    Well-being, Industrial Design

Tocomadera - (I touch wood) is a project that grew from the idea that many public programs about housing tend to forget the furniture and it's vital role in the use of homes. Many homes are given without furniture and the lack of it restricts the use of the new homes.

Besides this we seen that there was a need for simple but efficient furniture that was easy to develop to help in some crisis (floods, tornados) to re-furnish the homes quickly with a resticted budget.

Based on the experiences of organized and guided self construction that are very popular in our country by the cooperative housing sector, we developed a furniture system that allows a family or a group of families to develop cheap but durable furniture out of solid wood for the home or the social spaces in their communities.

The system could be built in small series without high investment in tools but it could easily be translated into a high volume industrial product in order to attend demand peaks, that could result form floods, fire. or tornadoes. All the system relies on a simple joint and a few wood sections. Simple and clear manuals are given to help the development of a project to furnish a home or a community place by people with very little technical knowledge.

The product images are available through tocomadera's blog and we will publish the manuals for each product of the system soon there.
