Hi Everyone, thanks for reading my profile - I'm a freelance designer and Art Director, I'm also a Dad, and a husband, when I'm not working I enjoy walking in the countryside, playing Rugby Union and sailing my boat when I get the chance. I avoid supermarkets whenever possible, I dont really go shopping. I enjoy growing my own veg and try to lessen my impact on the planet and influence others to do the same.
As a freelance designer work comes in from many different directions and after a recent design job I have now started to think about the way we live on the planet and what we can do to change it for the better. I designed a book after being approached by a writer Jon Symes.
The book and website are called "Your Planet Needs You" http://www.yourplanetneedsyou.org
Working on the book over an 18 month period has certainly changed the way I think about our contribution to the planet as designers and visual communicators. - it seems a huge percentage of the western world is wrapped up in consumerism, companys producing cheap or expensive goods, packaged and cleverly sold to a target market all using up resources and exploiting people all over the world in return for more and more money - essentially its greed.
We all know this cycle cannot continue and as designers I think we can start the process by refusing to produce design work and print for products that we feel are unethical. Our collective efforts must eventually put pressure on the big advertising agencies to reach a point where it is not acceptable to be involved with these products. Please take a look at http://www.yourplanetneedsyou.org and buy a book, read it and pass it on to others. Best Wishes Phil Turner
