  • The history of yoga

    Arts & Culture

    Water-drops-1-ajhd_132_

Who the first yogi really was is lost in the sands of time, but the roots of Yoga can be traced as long as 5000 years back. The earliest reference to Yoga was found when archeological excavations where made in the Indus valley - the most powerful and influential civilization in the early antique period. This sophisticated culture developed around the Indus river and the long gone Sarasvati river in northern India, on the border towards Pakistan.

Archeological findings from two of the largest cities, Mohenjo-Daro and Harappa, revealed (among other things) a portrait of a human being or god meditating in what looks like a Yoga posture. The Rig-Veda work, that describes different Yoga methods, is believed to be derived from the Inus-Sarasvati people and has been dated to 3000 to 5000 B.C.

Yoga as we know it today, is thus the result of a complex evolution that has been going on for at least 5000 years. However, according to most scholars, Yoga can't be recognized as a complete and complex tradition before about 500 B.C.

Vedic Yoga The oldest written records of Indian culture and yogic activities is found in the Vedas, which are a compilation of hymns and rituals over 3000 years old. The Vedic Yoga, also known as Archaic Yoga, revolves around the thought of reuniting the visible material world with the invisible spiritual world by sacrificing certain things. In order to practise these rather long rituals successfully it was necessary to be able to focus the mind to a very hig...

Each of us posses seven spinning energy centers called chakras. Each chakra has its own quality and quantity of energy depending on how open or closed it is. Color therapy in a variety of forms can be used to open blocked chakras. Chakra 1: Muladhara The root chakra is located at the base of the spine. This chakra deals with human potential, primitive energy, basic survival needs and our foundations. Red is the color associated with this chakra. A significant lack of energy here can make people weak and self-destructive.

Chakra 2: Svadhisthana The second chakra is located just slightly below the navel, or belly button. This chakra is the center of our sexual drive and emotions. The color of this chakra is orange. A deficiency of energy here may cause a person to be immobilized by fear, burdened by guilt or distrustful.

Chakra 3: Manipura The third chakra is located at the solar plexus and relates to will, power, and social identification. This chakra's color is yellow. A lack of energy here may result in depression and confusion.

Chakra 4: Anahata The fourth chakra is located over the heart and relates to love, balance, compassion, and self expression. Green, and sometimes pink, is the color of this chakra. Little energy in this chakra may cause paranoia and indecision.

Chakra 5: Vishuddha The fifth chakra is located at the throat and relates to communication, creativity, and self identification. The color here is blue. A blocked chakra here can cause a person to be devi...

  • what is Symbolism?

    Arts & Culture

    Reiki03_132_

Symbolism originated in France, and was part of a 19th-century movement in which art became infused with mysticism. French Symbolism was both a continuation of the Romantic tradition and a reaction to the realistic approach of impressionism. It served as a catalyst in the outgrowth of the darker sides of Romanticism and toward abstraction.

The term Symbolism means the systematic use of symbols or pictorial conventions to express an allegorical meaning. Symbolism is an important element of most religious arts and reading symbols plays a main role in psychoanalysis. Thus, the Symbolist painters used these symbols from mythology and dream imagery for a visual language of the soul.

Not so much a style of art, Symbolism was more an international ideological trend. Symbolists believed that art should apprehend more absolute truths which could only be accessed indirectly. Thus, they painted scenes from nature, human activities, and all other real world phenomena in a highly metaphorical and suggestive manner. They provided particular images or objects with esoteric attractions.

There were several, rather dissimilar, groups of Symbolist painters and visual artists. Symbolism in painting had a large geographical reach, reaching several Russian artists, as well as American. The closest to Symbolism was Aestheticism. The Pre-Raphaelites, also, were contemporaries of the earlier Symbolists, and have much in common with them. Symbolism had a significant influence on Expressionism and S...

    P17_132_

Childhood Leonardo Da Vinci was born on April 15, 1452 in the small Tucson town of Anchiano, near Florence. His parents, Ser Piero, a notary, and Caterina, a peasant woman, were unmarried, and the illegitimate Leonardo was raised by his father. Some experts claim that due to his illegitimacy Leonardo was unworthy of a proper education, and that this is the reason that he did not follow in his father's footsteps to become a notary, or why he did not study to become a doctor. Meanwhile, other Da Vinci sources claim that the young Leonardo was treated as a legitimate child, and was offered the same education as other children of that day.

Apprenticeship and First Florentine Period At the age of 15 Leonardo had already mastered skills in the fine arts and the young man was sent to Florence to work as an apprentice in the renowned workshop of Andrea del Verrocchio.

Leonardo worked with del Verrocchio until 1477, during which time del Verrocchio had been commissioned for a painting that would be The Baptism of Christ, and the painter had Leonardo aid him with the work by having his pupil paint the kneeling angel in the painting. Leonardo's angel was so outstanding that it shadowed del Verrocchio's portion of the work, and Leonardo is quoted to have later stated that "poor is a pupil that does not surpass his master." It is also said that Andrea del Verrocchio gave up his career as a painter, having suffered such humiliation by being out-painted by his own student.

my proposal in my university is about mantra therapy, mantra's are some ancient music types for meditation, they are as effective as medicines!Mantra is an invocation or a mystical formula, which aids the person to release the self and attain bliss and ultimate fulfillment. The sounds involved in a Mantra are themselves significant for they generate in the individual an unusual mystic power. Mantra produces a set of vibration in the surrounding atmosphere & its force depends on the attitude of the person as well as the intensity of concentration.

Mantras are performed through faith, the results of which cannot be analyzed measured, weighed, seen but are felt. The force of Mantra can be only felt. It should be performed with due faith and all rituals, then it is fruitfull. You must have complete faith in Mantra you are reciting and must know its meaning. Do the things as per prescribed methods. You will experience sensation and vibrations during or at the end of Japa, this is a sufficient proof to believe. Mantra requires faith, Japa, hard work ad per laid dictums to realize the desired objects and vibrations. Each Mantra has a different use, The vibrations of sound create desired reactions within the body too.

what is music therapy? Music therapy is the prescribed use of music and musical interventions in order to restore, maintain, and improve emotional, physical, physiological, and spiritual health and well-being. Within this definition are the key elements which def...

    Introduction

Avecina Persian philosopher and physician invented this proof for existence of God based on terms of Necessary Existence and Possibly Existence. Avecina wrote several books. Two of them are famous for his choice of name for them. One is called "Ghanoon" and the other is called "Shafaa". "Ghanoon" in Arabic means "Law". A suitable name for a logic and philosophy book. "Shafaa" means "Healing". A suitable name for a medical book. But content of the "Shafaa" book is logic and philosophy and content of the "Ghanoon" book is medicine. It can be guessed that his reasoning for this interesting choice can be that acquiring philosophical knowledge that hopefully can lead to wisdom can heal human mind. Proof of God's existence is from "Shafaa" book.

    An interesting story

As it is usual when people do not understand someone start hating it. A superficial priest of the mosque called Abu Ali Cina heretic. When he heard it, he smiled and said: "If there is one man who knows God is me. I proved His existence, I proved every single of His qualities and these people call me heretic. If I am heretic then there should not be any believer in town.He also proved all qualities of God. Such as:

God is one, not several God is omniscient, has complete knowledge God is omnipotent, has complete power God is omnipresent God has perfect Justice God has perfect beauty God is complete, filled, perfect, un-penetrable = "Aziz" God is kind, compassionate, merciful = "Rahman" To downloa...

Walt Disney was born on December 5, 1901 in Chicago Illinois, to his father Elias Disney, and mother Flora Call Disney. Walt was one of five children, four boys and a girl.

After Walt's birth, the Disney family moved to Marceline Missouri, Walt lived most of his childhood here.

Walt began to love, and appreciate nature and wildlife, and family and community, which were a large part of agrarian living. Though his father could be quite stern, and often there was little money, Walt was encouraged by his mother, and older brother, Roy to pursue his talents.

During the fall of 1918, Disney attempted to enlist for military service. Rejected because he was under age, only sixteen years old at the time. Instead, Walt joined the Red Cross and was sent overseas to France, where he spent a year driving an ambulance and chauffeuring Red Cross officials. His ambulance was covered from stem to stern, not with stock camouflage, but with Disney cartoons.

Once Walt returned from France, he began to pursue a career in commercial art. He started a small company called Laugh-O-Grams, which eventually fell bankrupt. With his suitcase, and twenty dollars, Walt headed to Hollywood to start anew.
