Volunteer with Silicon Valley Bike Exchange, MIT Club of Northern California, TechShop and Regional Parks Association. TechShop in Menlo Park CA (http://www.techshop.ws/) is a great place to meet local hackers and homebrew engineers. I'm starting to give away my designs (humble as they may be) on the Instructables website.
