  • Anyone for the ‘Milky Bag Kid’?

    Environment, Environmental Design

    Jugit-11_177_

I was shopping in Sainsbury’s yesterday and spotted these new jugs and bags of milk. Milk is now being sold in recyclable bags, apparently the bags contain 75% less waste than a standard 2 pint bottle. The system seems to be a trial for the time being as users are urged to log onto www.jugit.co.uk and register their feedback. I like this a lot and hope it works, a simple and cost effective way to reduce my rubbish.

Do you know a young person who is creating change in their community? Or has a great idea to make a difference?….Nominate them for a CHANGEit award!

CHANGEit, run by Common Purpose and sponsored by Deutsche Bank, recognises, supports and rewards young campaigners aged 11-18 who want to create a positive change in their communities and encourages young people to speak up and take action.

CHANGEit will award prizes of up to £750 in three categories:

Innovation - for young people with ideas to improve their community, who need training or support to get their campaign off the ground.

Performance - to celebrate the achievements of young campaigners who have already taken positive action.

Photo Contest - young people’s photos that capture ‘campaigning in action’ that was started or helped by young people

Nominations can be submitted online, for individuals or groups, at www.changeit.org.uk. Every young person nominated will receive a certificate of recognition. Campaigns can be big or small and deal with any issue. Judges are looking for passion, innovation and the determination to create change. The closing date is 12 January 2009 –so nominate today!

Winners will be announced at an award ceremony in spring 2009. Spread the word! Forward this to family, friends and colleagues who may know remarkable young people. It is an excellent way to encourage and recognise young campaigners, the leaders of tomorrow.

Really smart Transport For London ad.

I’ve seen quite a few of these used as corporate training exercises. Wouldn’t it have been better if it had been filmed with cyclists rather than basketball players though, given the message?

  • Alzheimer100_177_

As there are no posts here yet I thought I'd kick things off by introducing a project I worked on last year at thinkpublic called alzheimer100.

    What is alzheimer 100?

Alzheimer100 is a project which aimed to come up with creative solutions to the challenges presented by dementia.

Alzheimer100 was a part of Designs of the time, a year long project based in the North East exploring how design can make a positive difference to our daily lives.

People with dementia, their carers, service providers and experts in the field led this project. These groups worked together to tell their stories and design new services and products.

You can find out more about Alzheimer100 here:
