Nisrine Boukhari is a mixed media and installation artist based in Vienna. In her work, she uses concepts of psychogeography (the study of the laws and specifics effects of the geographical environment on the emotions and behavior of individuals) to explore our relationship to inner and domestic spaces. Principles of 'colour and light therapy' often underline the interactive nature of her installations. With a characteristic economy of means (her work often builds on the recurrence of mundane objects, such as ropes, post-it notes or sheets of copier paper), Nisrine creates sensorial and participatory installations which engage the body as well as the mind. Nisrine Boukhari (b. 1980) studied Sculpture at the University in Damascus and prepares for her Ma in social design in Vienna University. She had artist residency in Delfina Foundation/London, in Art Omi in NYC and many other residencies also, she exhibited her work internationally and locally (AllArtNow festival for Contemporary arts, Traces, Magnetism, Here I Stand). In 2008, she participated in one of Triangle workshop (Shatana) Jordan, in Amsterdam Biennial in 2009 and got the honorable award in Asian Art Biennale of Bangladesh. AllArtNow organization / one of the co-founder .
AllArtNow is considered to be the first independent collective space in Syria for visual arts, multimedia and contemporary arts. Founded in 2005, the initiative aims to create greater opportunities for emerging Syrian artists and the development of the contemporary arts practice in Syria by creating exchange and open windows with other countries. A neglected house in the old city of Damascus serves as AllArtNow’s laboratory for art: it is a hub for emerging artistic practice and serves as a meeting point for local and international artists to exchange creative ideas and form collaborations. To date, AllArtNow has succeeded in creating opportunities for artists in Syria and abroad. In the last year, AllArtNow has been selected to participate in many international events, and it has produced the first contemporary art festival in Damascus.
