In the United States today, osteoporosis is a major public health threat for an estimated 44 million Americans, or 55 percent of the people age 50 and older. As the nation’s leading voluntary health organization dedicated solely to osteoporosis, the National Osteoporosis Foundation (NOF) is working to achieve its mission: to prevent osteoporosis, promote lifelong bone health, help improve the lives of those affected by osteoporosis and related fractures, and find a cure. NOF pursues its mission through programs of awareness, advocacy, public and health professional education, and research.
