Design 21: Social Design Network

My neighborhood, our neighborhood would be beneficial for all people if there were better means of keeping the environment clean. Creating better ways of disposing trash and properly organizing a recycling system will help the environment and teach people of correctly disposing food trash, newspapers, bottles and plastics, etc. Keeping our spaces clean and properly disposing trash will help keep bugs away and begin a system of helping our earth reach a cleaner more green future.

These sculptures made from trash is a form of art but also serves as a statement in regards to all the waste that we has a group create.

The place I spend most of my time would be school, Parsons the New School for Design. If there was one vision of change that I would make for the school would be for a better way of organizing and providing for the student and faculty. A focus on other departments besides fashion would be a nice change. Our school should hold charities, give to different organizations and help bring students into awareness for different problems that face the world today.

Here is an interesting link to an article which highlights the life cycle of an unfairly traded candy bar. Think of all the waste that is generated from one vending machine on our campus and on so many other campuses. It effects not only the school, but the people halfway across the world that make them.

These bags are made from recycled candy wrappers.

Plastics do not biodegrade and they leech harmful chemicals into the things they contain. This is a company from Switzerland called Sigg which makes recyclable aluminum water bottles. No leeching what-so-ever.

People around the United States turn their front lawns into "farms" that feed their community.

MY ROOM is the place i spent most of time each day.

1. #1 vision of my ideal room is a BIG room(20 ft x 20 ft x16 ft studio by myself) with lots of sun light and a great view, also lots of storage space for my art supplies, junks, clothes, and etc... 2.After the #1 change in my room, it would benefit everyone and myself through spacious area to relax and work at the same time. 3.as for now, i cant really reach that goal yet because i do share a room with my room mate and things are just everywhere and complicated. the only thing i could do is to compromise with my room mate and share. working hard and getting that money is the #1 key for me to accomplish my goal, my ideal room.

Neighborhood

I would like to make it more diverse and urban through guerilla tactics. To make it happen, I would like to make graphic t-shirts with a thoughtful concept behind every t-shirt I make, and every shirt would apply to life experiences as the main concept. The neighborhood either would buy into my idea or not but one would always be curious and interested of the concept behind the lifestyle designed t-shirts.

country/and the world

Again, by accomplishing my vision for this country it’s easy. The way I imagined it would be a lifestyle brand with the collaboration of my friends that have the same mind set of breaking the stereotypes in the industry (music, film, art and design).

We want to do things the way we wanted to, problems we see and share, we want to be our own boss basically....

Imagine the place where you spend the most of your time each day. Where is it? Imagine it as you most want it to be.

Besides spending a lot of time in my apartment or at school, I happen to spend a significant amount of my time exercising. I enjoy running along the FDR in Manhattan with many others that take advantage of the beautiful public spaces and public bathrooms.

After your #1 thing happens, how will everyone benefit?

I do not want to significantly change the public places, although I can think of a few things that would benefit, I think they are a successful means of providing the public with areas to form positive communities within the city. I would like to see the paths have consistent extensions along the east side of the island, and perhaps branch out to other parts as well. I feel like it is important to have these places scattered along where there is no danger from reckless drivers. I also enjoy the water fountains that are periodically sprinkled along the path. I wish more of them were scattered everywhere in Manhattan.

I think everyone would benefit because these public places are important to form positive communities in the city. Because it is public space, the population, especially children, can come together and partake in positive activities, such as sports games and picnics. Not only that, but it is a pedestrian only area which connects other parts of the island, instead of a place like central park which serves as its own island. ...

1.Imagine the place where you spend most of your time each day. Where is it? What is your #1 vision for change that will make is that way? As a design student who spend most of time in the school, so we spend a lot time doing projects in a studio. I would like to change the basement where includes all workshops and material library and computer room and material shop. After your idea happens, how will everyone benefit? It can improve students working efficiency, and it also can provide learning opportunity. For example, students can share making process each other, and we can share experience each other. Because everyone work in the basement, we feel like family working together. In parsons can has a Material shop that student can save time to buy materials, and the shop can get their profit. Give some examples of what you can do to make your vision a reality? At first, to do survey to get student’s opinion, and then according to data to support this idea. Using design knowledge to design basement studio and make a proposal. Bringing a proposal to dean who will hand in to president of parsons.

Since there are many children in my neighbor, it is extremely important to provide parks where include safe and educational function for children planning. 1 Vision for change: to create a sense of community.

Benefits: inspiration, networking, assisting one another with projects/work. How to do this: encourage and promote more shows/exhibitions, online hub where students can communicate, more integration of departments.

Neighborhood.

1 Vision for change: reduce plastic bag use.

Benefits: cleaner/healthier neighborhood (environment), reduce waste. How to do this: implement a system in stores that will reduce plastic bag use- by advertising and promoting cloth, and other types of reusable bags.

Country.

1 Vision for change: end corruption (lack of loyalty and citizenship).

Benefits: reduce poverty, more even spread of wealth and power, access to education, order and efficiency. How to do this: education, enforce laws and rules, help create more of a sense of community.

World.

1 Vision for change: green/sustainability.

Benefits: more holistic and natural lifestyle, minimal to no toxins, preserve the planet, healthier environment. How to do this: educate, research, take risks.

1 Vision for change I want to work on: SOCIAL JUSTICE.
