The American Cancer Society is a community-based voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives, and diminishing suffering from cancer, through research, education, advocacy, and service.

In addition to being the nation's largest, private, not-for-profit source of funds for scientists studying cancer, it also provides the public with accurate, up-to-date information on cancer, a priority for the American Cancer Society. Trained specialists are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at 1-800-ACS-2345.
