Seventh Generation is the nation's leading brand of non-toxic and environmentally safe household products. With distribution in thousands of natural product and grocery stores nationwide, we've become the authority when it comes to products that protect your health and the planet. We've also won over 15 major awards that recognize our efforts to preserve the environment.
We derive our name from the Iroquois belief that "In our every deliberation, we must consider the impact of our decisions on the next seven generations." Every time you use a Seventh Generation product you are making a difference by saving natural resources, reducing pollution, keeping toxic chemicals out of the environment and making the world a safer place for this and the next seven generations.
History
How Seventh Generation came to be... There was a small environmental organization called Renew America which had an even smaller mail order catalog of energy conservation products. It was a good idea and a good catalog, but like many worthy endeavors, the money needed to help it grow and prosper just wasn't there. Rather than see it fade away, the people at Renew America asked some people they'd been working with in Burlington, Vermont if they'd simply take the catalog and run with it, no strings attached. That was us and we said yes. The year was 1988 and within months we'd packed our new catalog with previously unheard of things like energy-saving light bulbs and devices, water conservation items, non-toxic cleaning products, and even bathroom tissue made from unbleached recycled paper. We also started selling our products to natural food stores and coops until one day in 1995 we realized we had two growing businesses but only enough time and energy for one. So we sold the catalog to a company in Boulder, Colorado called Gaiam. They renamed it Harmony, and we were freed to devote all our blood, sweat, and tears to filling store shelves from coast to coast with household products that are safer for you and the environment™.
