P&G is committed to linking opportunity with responsibility, ensuring a higher quality of life for all, both now and in the future.
Children's Safe Drinking Water
P&G works with a diverse group of partners to provide families in developing countries with access to clean drinking water. To date, the Children's Safe Drinking Water Program (CSDW) has provided enough product to produce more than 500 million liters of clean drinking water for children and their families in need around the world. Since it was established in 2003, CSDW has provided clean drinking water to people in 23 developing nations with the introduction of the PUR Purifier of Water.
Studies show the PUR Purifier of Water can reduce diarrheal illness in children by up to 50 percent. In addition to CSDW programs in developing countries, PUR Purifier of Water has been provided to some of the most critical global emergency relief situations, including the tsunami in Asia, hurricanes in the Caribbean, and floods in the Philippines and Bangladesh.
Live, Learn and Thrive
P&G Live, Learn and Thrive™ comes to life through dozens of programs in communities around the world. We have long made a difference in the causes we support, but we can make a greater, more enduring difference by focusing on a "corporate cause" where the need is great and there is a clear fit with P&G strengths, brands and current programs.
We are committed to focusing our charitable contributions and sustainability efforts on a single cause: improving life for children in need, ages 0-13, through our corporate cause, P&G Live, Learn and Thrive. In fact, because of this focus, we already have helped improve life for more than 40 million children in need around the world.
Help children in need live by helping ensure they get off to a healthy start; provide children in need with places, tools and programs that enhance their ability to learn; give children in need access to programs that help develop the self-esteem and life skills that they need to thrive.
There are several reasons to concentrate our resources in this area. Disadvantaged children are most vulnerable and least able to help themselves. We have many existing programs in children's education and development as well as deep expertise in health and hygiene, which will be critical in addressing global needs for children and the world. Child development is a universal concern across all global stakeholders in both developed and developing countries.
By strengthening current programs, introducing new ones and focusing our expertise and technologies on this critical need, we can improve the future for these children throughout the world.
Humanitarian and Disaster Relief
The P&G Global Sustainability organization coordinates the Company-wide response to natural disasters and other emergencies requiring humanitarian relief.
P&G believes contributing to humanitarian relief efforts advances the Company's mission of improving the lives of the world's consumers.
Contributions (money and/or product) are made for humanitarian purposes to assist with basic needs such as food, shelter and medicine. Humanitarian relief almost always will be associated with natural disasters (flood, earthquake, hurricane) but also will be considered for major man-made disasters, such as a catastrophic accident. We focus primarily on communities where P&G operations are physically located.
P&G makes contributions to established relief agencies that are capable of receiving and distributing aid in a fair, efficient and effective way, including the American Red Cross, International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, UNICEF, United Way International, Population Services International and America's Second Harvest®. This means that before a disaster strikes, we have already committed to providing aid. Our contributions insure that teams are trained, disaster trucks are ready to roll throughout the world and emergency communications systems are in place.
During a crisis situation: The Global Sustainability organization is provided regular updates about need by these organizations and will respond appropriately. If a disaster or emergency situation strikes a community where we have a large concentration of employees and their families, The Global Sustainability organization will work with P&G local management regarding corporate response.
Volunteer Support Program
P&G believes in the importance of making a difference in the quality of life in the communities where they live and work through corporate and volunteer support of humanitarian and social-cause efforts.
The focus of the Volunteer Support Program is the development of children in need, ages 0 to 13, through our global cause, P&G Live, Learn and Thrive™, which enables us to meet the needs of children in our diverse communities around the world.
Working with nonprofit partners around the world, we believe we can improve the future for these children and the generations that follow.

Gillette Awards $1.6 Million in Homelessness Prevention and P&G Live, Learn and Thrive(TM) Grants
Continues the Commitment to Break the Cycle of Family Homelessness and Improving the Quality of Life for Children in Need
BOSTON, May 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Gillette, part of The Procter & Gamble Company (NYSE: PG), is continuing to fight homelessness by renewing its commitment to the Gillette Homelessness Prevention Grants Program, a program that began in 2005. Today, Gillette awarded grants totaling $884,000 to 21 social service organizations working to build awareness of homelessness prevention as a solution to end homelessness in Boston.
The Gillette Homelessness Prevention Grants will help nearly 500 Greater Boston families keep their homes through the efforts of support programs focused on the underlying issues that cause many families to lose their homes - the high cost of housing, loss of employment, lack of daycare and/or transportation, limited education or skills, special needs and disabilities, and short-term financial crises.
There are nearly 6,400 homeless individuals in Boston, and many more people are living on the brink of homelessness. Approximately 40 percent of Boston's homeless population consists of families with children, a group that is the fastest-growing segment of the homeless population.
Grants totaling $718,000 were also awarded through P&G's Live, Learn and Thrive(TM) program. These grants were awarded to 22 non profit organizations that provide services for children in need. Live, Learn and Thrive focuses on helping children 0-13 through mentoring programs, preventative medical care and tools needed to learn. The resources are used to help children live by ensuring they have healthy starts; we support places, tools and programs that enhance their ability to learn; and help them thrive through access to programs that help develop self esteem and essential life skills.
