Membership

How do I become a member?
You can become a member by registering here for a username and password. Membership is free.

My account says "inactive." How do I activate it?
Once you have registered for an account, a confirmation email will be sent to the email address you provided. You will then need to click on the link in the confirmation email to activate your account. If you don’t see the confirmation email in your Inbox, check your spam folder.

My username/password is not working.
If you are a new user and are having trouble logging in, make sure you have clicked on the activation link in the confirmation email that was sent to you. If you forgot your password, click on the I Forgot My Password link on the log in page. If you forgot the email you used to register with us, please email with your first and last name, and we will get back to you with your username and password.

The activation link in my email doesn’t work.
Please Contact Us if clicking the link to activate your account does not appear to be working (choose Website from the menu of options as your subject).

I am receiving error messages when registering.
Please Contact Us with the exact error message in its entirety, which you are receiving – choose Website from the menu of options as your subject.

As an individual, there are lots of ways you can get involved in the Network. Some highlights:

    Your profile offers you a place to network and connect with our members. The profile also offers you a blog to initiate discussions and respond to members and supporters, serving as your own interactive tool.
  • Organizations
    Learn about socially responsible businesses, non-profit organizations and interest groups globally who are a part of the same network as yourself. The Social Design Network is your new common ground that will connect you with people and organizations around the world.
  • Compete
    Our design competitions will challenge you to create smart solutions to social problems using design. We want your participation!
  • Act
    Take action! The Act section collects all Non-profit needs into one centralized area, providing an opportunity to learn about involvement in socially conscious projects. It’s the spot on the site where you can get directly involved with different Non-profits who are looking for help – in the form of design or activity – from the community.

As a designer, what are the benefits of joining DESIGN 21: Social Design Network?

What does our Organization Profile consist of?
Your DESIGN 21 profile offers you a place to network and connect with our members – designers, socially-conscious individuals and other organizations, from corporations to schools and government agencies. It contains:

  • A Wishlist of organization needs, ranging from volunteering opportunities to creative services
  • A News/Events section for you to tell the community about your activities
  • A Blog to initiate discussion and respond to members and supporters.

As a Non-Profit, how can we be involved in design competitions?
UNESCO is working closely with us to create design competitions that challenge individuals and designers to create smart solutions to social problems. We want to hear your Non-Profit’s needs and concerns so that future competitions can address them. To suggest a challenge, Contact Us with the details of your purchase and choose NPO and Business Network from the menu of options as your subject.

How does the Allumonde ring benefit our organization?
Allumonde is a symbol of the wearer’s commitment to your cause, helping to spread awareness and communicate your message. When a member of DESIGN 21 purchases Allumonde in your organization’s name, 19% goes to your organization with an additional 2% to UNESCO. Engraving opportunities are also available so that your organization may brand the ring and distribute or sell it as you choose. You can also purchase Allumonde rings in bulk where 60% will go to your organization enabling an even greater contribution.

How can my Non-Profit join the Social Design Network?
Membership is free. DESIGN 21 must approve all Non-Profit members. To apply through the site, you must be authorized to represent your organization and first make yourself a member of DESIGN 21. Once you have set yourself up as a member, you can create a group by clicking the Create A Group button in the Organizations section, declare that you are creating a Non-Profit group and submit the application form. You will be contacted by DESIGN 21 as soon as possible. Alternatively, you can Contact Us to be set up with the details of your organization – choose NPO and Business Network from the menu of options as your subject.

Corporations

Why should our company join DESIGN 21: Social Design Network?
Being a member is great for your company:

  • In one central location, DESIGN 21 will keep your company in the know about how people everywhere are using design to make a difference.
  • Giving your company a presence on DESIGN 21 demonstrates your support of social design in this new forum that is the resource for social design today.
  • DESIGN 21: Social Design Network is the first of its kind to offer companies a number of benefits in one location. The website is a place where corporations can talk about the work that they do, connect, interact, share and participate in the key venues of the Network.

How can our company benefit from having a profile on the DESIGN21 site?
The Organizations section offers your company a place to profile its socially responsible actions to the world, which can serve as inspiration for designers, socially-conscious individuals, Non-Profits and other organizations that make up this global network. As a corporate member, your company can:

  • Share your socially-responsible actions and practices
  • Share your philanthropic visions and contributions
  • Communicate your News and Events
  • Form discussions or respond through your Blog

As a corporate member, what parts of the Network can I take advantage of?
Corporate members are vital to the success of the site, and so we offer many ways for you to get involved:

  • Act
    Challenge your company to take action! The Act section collects all Non-Profit needs into one centralized area, providing an opportunity to learn about involvement in socially conscious projects. It’s where your corporation can get directly involved with different Non-Profits and their projects.
  • Compete
    The compete section hosts an ongoing series of online design competitions created with UNESCO which challenge designers to address contemporary social, cultural and environmental concerns. Your company has the option to participate through sponsorships that address your social responsibility goals. The design competitions can challenge participants in many ways and we are open to working with interested parties to create UNESCO-partnered competitions.

How can my company join the Social Design Network?

Once you have set yourself up as a member, you can create a group by clicking the Create A Group button in the Organizations section, declare that you are creating a Private Sector group to be identified as such.
