The intent behind this UN Documentary Film Festival logo design is to symbolically represent the UN Millennium Development Goals that are the underlying theme of the festival.
The icon features a human circle made up from 8 people (men, women, and children) holding hands. Each individual in the circle represents one of the UN Millennium Development Goals. The inner shape of the circle is modeled to mimic the aperture of a film camera. Finally, the festival title is framed in "film strip" brush strokes.
The number of colors used in the logo is held small (2) (may easily be reduced to monochrome) to allow for low cost reproduction (i.e. satellite festivals with budget restrictions).
