Based on the broad concept of a flag – representing the values of hope and optimism. An memorable, and uplifting icon that feels celebratory and relevant to a film festival.
The ‘film spectrum’ flag is divided into 8 segments representing the 8 Millennium Development Goals that all UN Member States are striving for.
The overall shape is dynamic and optimistic with an upward curve finished by film perforations directly linking with the festival medium.
The spectrum represents different points of view from around the world, drawing on a color palette that feels human and from the earth. The blue segment links back to the color equity of the UN logo.
Abstract metaphors include, an open story book – relating to the title, a bird or wing – a symbol of freedom, peace and hope, or a landscape – referring to the documentary film makers’ vast locations and reference points.
The typography is clean, open and contemporary, it compliments the icon style perfectly.
The shape and treatment of the logo lends itself to many types of applications from printed collateral, to exhibition size banners (shown). It would also translate strikingly to animation both in web and film.
