Our proposed shelter provides immediate refuge for flooded areas victims. The “tentóraft” is stored in as a handbag sized box can be either parachuted down at the time of the disaster or distributed before hand, and serves as an initial temporary shelter and life saving boat, until rescue teams reach the area and arrange for evacuation. The inspiration is derived from the accordion which easily transforms a two-dimensional construct into a three dimensional structure. The basic unit is a self inflating trapezium which serves as a life-saving floating shelter for an adult with one child. Each such unit contains a first-aid kit and provisions for a day. Upon reaching dry land the trapezium can be opened up similarly to an accordion and constructs easly a three dimensional sleeve-like shelter. These "sleeves" can be positioned parallel to each other, in a star shaped manner, or in various other combinations to allow for an active community interaction. Thus, this shelter in its open configuration, allows both for desired privacy and association with the surrounding community, depending on the configuration and the individual's wishes.
