The main goal with the toy is to make the fun factor last for children from the age of one up to the age of three. The toy shall be safe for the target group to use and attract parents and other possible purchasers. To achieve my main goals I wanted to eliminate sharpe corners from the toy and make the toy in a size that can not be swallowed or allow the user to get caught. I gave the toy a non preconceived shape to trigger the children’s imaginative ability and allow the child to explore volume, shape and character. At the age of one the child will mainly explore the shape and volume of the toy. At two they start trying to fit the different parts together and at three they can explore there own characters witch they can make using the objects. They can interact by making eyes with there fingers to give them personality.
I chose to give the toy classical colours such as yellow, red and black, but also silver as a contrast to the expected toy colour combinations.
The toy is produced in beech wood witch is warm to touch and also gives the toy a long life-length. It can be handed from generation to generation but can if necessary easily be environmentally disposed. Its simple shape allows easy mass production by automated machines.
This toy is thought to be a starter set. Different sets can be manufactured to compliment the basic module to increase possible combinations and the development of the child.
