Two basic geometrical shapes give an endless amount of possibilities. The brightly coloured pentagons and hexagons of PEXA can be connected easily by sliding them together. PEXA challenges children to explore its possibilities without any explanation being necessary: Can I build a tower higher then myself, or a shelter with a peeping hole, or maybe a bed to have a rest? PEXA also stimulates to play together: What did you make and what shall we make together? Playing with PEXA develops eye-hand coordination and spatial apprehension. It’s also a good exercise: building requires continuous bending, crawling, standing up and sitting down. All these aspects, combined with the size of the modules, make PEXA pre-eminently suitable for use in for instance schools, hospitals and playrooms.
Expert research has shown that PEXA is suited for children aged 5 to 10. It allows 5 year olds to play without a plan with the emphasis on experiencing, exploring and probing shapes and possibilities for connecting. Playing with a flexible plan is the next step in the development of a child (6 to 7 years). With PEXA children can start with a plan to make something but can change the plan while playing when encountering problems or finding new possibilities. Playing with a fixed plan, for instance to make a complete ball, asks for insight in connections, spatial apprehension and logic. PEXA challenges children aged 8 to 10 to develop these skills.
De modules are die cut from a special kind of poly ethylene (PET). This foam material is tear, wear, and bite proof, light and flexible. It’s non absorbent en non toxic and can be washed of with tap water. The production of the material has a low environmental impact and is 100% CFC and HCFC free. It can be recycled after granulation.
