It is hard to face our natural disasters, specially when they affect million of people. With our design, we cover the needs of this group of people, who suffer from low quantities of food, cold and the radioactivity in the water because of the nuclear plant explosion.
Our project consists in a habitation complex based on trailer containers, adapted as bedrooms, food and rest area.
The complex has a vertical character saving ground space. We decided to use these containers because they are prefabricated, accessible and reusable. Measurements for the container are 12 x 4 x 2.5m.
The container is divided in low floor, which has 9 dorm rooms, and high floor with 10. Every dorm room has 1.8m long, .70 wide and 0.46 high and have a storage space of wood under to keep personal stuff. Over the storage space we place a mattress to sleep and 50cm above there’s a lamp, where they can keep personal stuff to. A slide door separates every dorm room.
Using the stairs placed inside, on the side of the container, you get access to the top level.
We took advantage of the cover of the trailer to use it as a space to eat, placing to benches and a foldable table.
The module has two windows at the top, which can be pushed or pulled depending if the container its over or under, so we get good ventilation. Two columns will support the covers for the upper level containers.
In order to get electricity to use the lamps and plugs in the dorm rooms solar panels will be used, located at the top of the container. Batteries will be placed in the space under the stairs.
Rest area it’s designated to read, play or just for distraction.
This project is functional, since all spaces have specific features to cover a necessity. Using the solar panels gives the project an ecologic perspective.
Its attractive visually because of the symmetric shape of the mounted modules, chosen color is white to give the sensation of more space, natural wood color on the storage spaces and red representing the central dot on the Japan national flag.
