Hope blooms

by Ramya Ramakrishnan

I have taken the Japanese Cherry Blossom as the inspiration for this series of 4 handmade greeting cards.
The cherry blossom tree is well known throughout the world as a symbol of Japan.
But beyond that, it also has a special significance to the Japanese people and holds a certain place within their culture.

The Cherry Blossom, with its beauty, exuberant blooms, and transient nature, represents to the Japanese the nature of Human life, with all its trials and tribulations, ups and downs.
It is a sign of their strong and resilient spirit, and motivation, and thus seemed to be the perfect metaphor.

I have tried to show how a helping hand can be extended without using mere words, but by symbolic drawings, such as a single branch sprouting new blooms, or a hand which is there to catch fallen petals. Hope can be found in something as simple as a new bloom of flower.
