Japan Earthquake Relief: A symbolic charity accessory

Competition Details

by Gyöngyi

I was inspired by the thought of rebirth when designing my ring. I wanted to symbolize the resumption, and I wanted to show this idea a very simple way. So, I decided to design rather something very small and simple object, then some kind of very spectacular and complicated accessory.
My ring is made of colour anodized aluminum, and the colour of red symbolizes Japan. My idea was to show that revival can happen anywhere and anytime, because even a tree can grow from a crack in the ground. Simplicity was very important for me, because, this is an important feature in Japanese culture. I have been always attracted by the elegant modesty expressed by Japanese art. So, with my design, I also tried to give a brief answer to a complex theme, such as resumption. I do believe, that it is only art which can help us to understand the unimaginable and incomprehensible matters.
