Coming Together

by Cristina Matei

The term Rapprochement signifies a dialogue between cultures, which requires that countries come together to share cultural knowledge and foster mutual understanding.

My poster plays on the idea of "coming together" by turning the continents on a map to point towards each other, as a kind of meeting point which is signified by the year, 2010 International Year for the Rapprochement of Cultures. The "Culture Counts" letter-forms are created from colorful bead necklaces, which create a positive, playful visual environment while not specifically pointing toward any one particular culture.

The bead letter-forms, strewn across this map, act as bridges of cultural exchange, and signify a new global community that contains a framework of commonly-shared values.
