This poster is an illustration of dialogue between diverse peoples. In the same way that people are composed of the same elements and are diverse, the basic element of dots are employed in different sizes, shapes and colors to compose figures and a background to express diversity. The design also slightly references the images used to test for colorblindness. The composition and colors enhance the positive and hopeful message of “2010 The International Year of the Rapprochement of Cultures.”
“Dialogue” is designed to attract the attention of the viewer in a “loud” voice, with the large numbers and bold use of color, and then deliver the message of “rapprochement” in an interpersonal, conversational voice — hence the smaller type used in the “dialogue” between the figures. The rapprochement of cultures is ultimately realized through the personal conversations of individuals within cultures, and this poster design is intended to illustrate the various levels at which people perceive each other — from the obvious to the subtle.
