This poster uses words alone to illustrate the three main dimensions for the International Year for the Rapprochement of Cultures, of dialogue, mutual understanding and cooperation. It employs two languages, shared letterforms and shared words to depict a literal and metaphorical dialogue between cultures. The colors used are matched to the official logo, in order to create a harmonious union of the program identity and the poster itself.
The word “rapprochement” is literally shared, and therefore an apt demonstration of the mutual understanding between cultures. Just as a third, mutual, understanding is created in the dialogue of two people, so the joining of the two colors employed for the text of each language in the poster create a new, third, color where the words overlay each other. This poster is intended to be speak to the viewer at a conversational level, without visually “shouting,” which is appropriate to the subject of dialogue, mutual understanding and cooperation.
