In 2005 I was walking through an urban area of my home city when my eye was drawn to this poppy, successfully struggling for life in the street gutter. I was struck by the symbolism of this vignette of beauty and hope.
The picture remained on my mobile phone until now, when I have taken the opportunity to treat it in graphically striking manner, to reinforce its iconic character and hopefully serve as an "inspiration and message for children and future generations about happiness that's in harmony with our surroundings".
