Maintaining a fluid community is the best way to protect ones cultural essence. Like water, cultures are vibrant ecosystems; each portion constantly stretching and mapping their borders, traveling only as far as the community can reach or the space allows. Repeated tensions on the surface ultimately creates our boundaries, limiting our maximum size and influence. What we must realize is that our cultures are not solid, but amorphous and membranous beings. Our individual ecosystems have a heartbeat, a natural rhythm that influences the way we move. Animated through artistic expression, this spirit creates a space where contact with other cultures results in exchange instead of friction, in partnership...not opposition. This space is where diversity lives; reflecting similarities and illuminating differences, where each becomes the others' shadow. While it may be a rather fragile womb, it holds great potential for nurturing and sustainable development. Only through an exchange of ideas can we mutually evolve, and only together can we both rise.
