Square & Circle Festival Logo

by TARI DONOHUE
Co-authors:

In designing this piece, I wanted to emphasize the commonality among our cultures, and chose circles to represent them: some smaller, some bolder, but all similar.

Another element to represent sameness was to choose that one colour that is common to us all, regardless of skin tone, religion or cultural practices.

It was important to focus on elements that would be recognizable to many cultures, and not depart into 3D elements or hidden figures that may not be understandable to less developed countries.

The 'square peg' was the last element decided upon. I wanted to emphasize that this festival and its gifts are not always easily achieved, but the effort to 'fit' the square peg, as it were, into these circles, is achievement and grace.
