LANGUAGES MATTER! A UNESCO poster competition

Competition Details

Official poster of International Mother Language Day.

by Melissa Garlington

This poster wants to illustrate the importance of multilingualism and cultural diversity around the world. The message reads: "International Mother Language Day", but if we take a closer look, we can see the top view of some sort of letter shaped tables and sitting next to these tables, there are dozens of people chatting and having dialogues with each other. Each person has a unique color, which represents it's own cultural and linguistic background. This idea wants to emphasize the importance of fully accepting and promoting multilingualism worldwide. Our mother language is part of what we are and what we project to others. This poster for "International Mother Language Day" celebrates every personal or group identity around the world and for that matter everybody should be proud to know where they come from and what their roots are (including language).
