languages all over the world

by Zsanett Szlifka

Although the world has between five and six thousand languages, experts agree that less than half of these languages will survive the next century. These are all minority languages which are surrounded by majority languages with much greater resources, such as mass media, and numbers of speakers.
A people with a distinctive language first becomes bilingual and after a few short generations the ancestral language of that people is lost forever.
