Nearly extinct languages infographic

by Clara Meliande

There are about 516 languages classified as nearly extinct. This means that only a few elderly speakers are still living.
The graphic shows the number of speakers (cyan) and the related number of the ethnic population alive (yellow). Education of those populations could be a hope for their languages not to disappear.
Source:; in this graphic, languages for which information about both the numbers for speakers alive and the entire ethnic population was not available were not included.
