The principal and dominant information is “the richness of diversities”, thousands of different languages facing the threat of going extinct in the face of globalization. The assumption that in 2020 there will be four major world languages, while others will be “languages for poets”, leads us to conclude that it is necessary to do our utmost to keep the languages facing extinction from being forgotten. This poster represents my humble contribution to this end.
The main symbol, hopefully recognizable to everyone, is the chameleon changing color in order to blend in and survive. The message is that in dialectics, all that fails to adapt, i.e. everything that does not undergo constant changes adapting to circumstances, eventually disappears like the dinosaurs. All that fails to change is dead - like Latin. Our chameleon, as can be seen, blends in well, however its main advantage in this particular case is not the change of color. Emphasis is directed to the tongue, representing speech, and it is colored as a rainbow making us realize that wealth comes from diversities, with common root and cultural heritage.
The most perfect universal language we all know, representing the foundation of the nature and everything that exists – mathematics – is not to be forgotten, however this is not the subject of the competition.
The lighter background which due to its neutrality emphasizes the dominant element of the poster, the textual part is secondary, offering additional information on the theme. The font used is Times New Roman, being the most widely used and thus the most recognizable font all over the world. The illustrative technique is free, with the application of a brush and ink, having been used for centuries to record language until recently.
This has added a soft and warm touch creating allusions to minor, almost unique languages…
