LANGUAGES MATTER! A UNESCO poster competition

Competition Details

by George Bogdis

Since this is a bilingual poster I have placed
more importance on the illustration / image,
rather than the typography, to maximize the visual
impact of the poster to a multi-cultural audience.
I have used the 'speech-bubble' as a graphic symbol
to represent different languages around the world
and their positions on a map. The map uses the full
spectrum of colours to symbolize cultural diversity.
A representation of languages that are no longer
in use can be seen on the top right corner, alerting
the audience to the issue of languages dissapearing.
The overall feel of the poster is associated with the
visual language of information graphics used in mainstream media around the world which most people can clearly comprehend and identify with.
