Worlds of Language

by Marcus Alexander

The central image of my piece is a mouth that is in the style of a mosaic of all of the countries of the world. The goal of this image is to communicate how much the very identity, history and culture of each and every region of the world are indelibly fused with mother languages. Language is the basis in one way or another for nearly all human activities, so the human world is language. My piece is a visual representation of these thoughts.

The countries are all to scale and every country is included. The first entry also has a series of effects done to the surrounding area which are meant to convey sound coming from the mouth.

The piece is also meant to hint towards an overall unity while acknowledging and supporting lengual differences.
